Army Life in a Black Regiment

Thomas Wentworth Higginson recounts his memories of his time as Colonel of the first Black Infantry unit in the American Civil War. He tells of the training the dicipline and the earliest incidents of the unit under fire.

As an interesting note the writer of the film "Glory" obviously used this book as a resource, as speeches from this book appear in the film word for word.

The Campaigns of the British Army at Washington and New Orleans 1814-1815

The Narrative contains, an authentic account, of the expedition directed against Washington and New Orleans, towards the close of the Anglo-American war. It has been compiled, from a journal kept by the author whilst engaged in the enterprise.
